The new underrated comic book TV show, Supergirl has captured the many superhero fan audiences. Clearly, DC comics is stepping up their A-game in reviving the characters in hit TV series. She is not a typical blond-headed girl with the red cape and an “S” on the chest, in this series, she serves as a good example for us to follow or look up to that reminds us what the letter means on her costume, “hope”.
Here are a few lessons that Kara Danvers/Zor-el’s (played by Melissa Benoist) role has taught us that we can apply in our daily lives.
1. Power
Yes, we don’t have her super strength but we have the power to become capable of our desires in life. Like Kara, every one of us are gifted with the power to make the right choice, to take authority at work when needed, and the power to choose our values and principles in life. Just like Kara, with her special gift, she chose to use it for saving lives and she did not just take advantage of it.
2. Fighting abilities
Supergirl always fought for what is right and what she believes is right even when she is already going against her aunt from their planet Krypton. Many times, she stood up for herself, as well fighting for her opinions with her boss, Cat Grant. She knows what she is fighting for. At work, if you believe you are doing the right thing and you believe your idea will work, speak up, maybe you supervisors will hear you out. Are you suffering from bully co-workers? The best revenge is being successful and they will not be gaining on you anymore.
3. Best of both Worlds
Kara is plays as a hero and at the same time, a regular employee. You can also be a hero, if you are the breadwinner of the family, you are a hero. When you offer a helping hand to friend who is going through a rough patch, again, you are a hero. You can be like Kara at work, she plays as a loyal assistant of Cat Grant, and you can to. It is your choice to make the best of both worlds.
4. Teamwork
Kara doesn’t save lives alone, at most times she needs the support from her friends and family. Her sister, Alex Danvers (played by Chrysler Leigh) she didn’t envy Kara, and instead she became an instrument for Kara to pursue to be a superhero. Believe in the importance of your family and friends, they are your support system, and you can never go wrong with the help and the comforting hug from your “team”. Like what Supergirl said to her friends and family, “Love bonds us all”.
5. Embrace your Uniqueness
In many years, Kara wasn’t able to show her true identity. She struggled in keeping her powers but now she is known as “Supergirl”. Just be yourself, like what Kara is doing now, she is embracing what she is. It is your choice to be the best version of yourself. You don’t need to “fit in” and to be accepted because the ones who truly accept you for whoever you are, are your family and real friends.
