Negosentro | What Equipment Do You Need for Working by the Side of the Road? | Many people need to work by the side of a busy road, and that just does not mean those who are involved in the construction of the roads themselves. Some need to fix the lighting on the roads, and then there are those who maintain or change the posters on bus stops and billboards across the nation.
People like these can be working by the side of the busy roads or in town centers, where people least expect to see somebody doing work. For this reason, they need to make sure they have all the right equipment to do the job quickly and safely, not only for themselves but for the people around them too.
They Need the Right PPE
The right place to start is with PPE, which stands for personal protective equipment. This needs to be worn, in nearly all cases, when working by the side of the road. Take, for instance, somebody changing a poster for the latest movie blockbusters at the bus stop or billboard outside a busy fast-food outlet.
Even for a simple job like this, they will require steel-toe capped shoes in case of dropped tooling or other items and even a hard hat. They will also need a high visibility safety vest, to make sure they don’t get lost in the crowd and can be seen easily by motorists, especially during the early hours of the morning when they would typically carry out this type of work.
LED Work Lights
Of course, in a situation like this, when people are working by the side of the road before dawn or after dusk, they need decent lighting. This is so they can see exactly what they’re doing, and it is important that either they or the company they work for, invest in a high-quality LED work light. These are not only very bright, but they are also portable and can even, in some cases, be mounted on the side of the vehicle to cast light and ample light on the work taking place.
This is incredibly important to get the job done as quickly as possible, and for anybody working on fiddly tasks. This could include, for instance, checking the wiring on traffic signal lights which, as they are exposed to the elements can tend to go wrong quite frequently.
Make Sure You Have the Right Signage in Place
Something else that is important is alerting other road users to the fact that work is taking place. Using the example of the person putting up a poster on a billboard above, they could have cones placed up to 250ft from the work taking place along, but also a sign indicating that traffic should pass and would normally have their beacon lights active.
In some cases, it would be prudent to place similar signage at the front of the vehicle, especially in busy towns and cities where motorists we’ll have to negotiate other parked vehicles as well, and might not be aware that work is taking place.
